Hallmark Hotel Leisure, Melaka

Hallmark Hotel Leisure is a budget hotel you may consider staying if you plan to do a walking tour of major tourist attractions in Melaka. Its location which is just a leisurely walk from these tourist hotspots is probably its main asset.
This 4 storey hotel with 78 rooms is located at No 68, Jalan Portugis, Off Jalan Kubu, a seemingly quiet road. The hotel offers about 15 open air parking lots on a first come first served basis but not to worry as there are other public as well as private car parks in the vicinity.
Opposite it is a Chinese Primary School.( Pay Teck School) and a very short walk away is Jonker Walk, the Melaka River, etc.
This is the hotel lobby and lounge. The receptionists are friendly and obliging.
The lift is tiny with a capacity of not more than 10.
We stayed in room No 326 which is a deluxe double. The rate ranges from RM110-RM160 depending on the season.
The room is modestly furnished but quite well equipped. There is a closet with hangers and 2 extra pillows, a hair drier, a working table with tea cups and a hot water flask but there there is no electric jug. Hot and cold drinking water is available at the common hallway near the lift. There is however the inconvenience of only 1 bedside table.
Hot and cold water dispenser for public use at the hallway.
Complimentary for the guests are only 1 sachet of  coffee and 1 sachet of tea.
A mini bar is  provided but all items are chargeable.
There is a 32 inch LCD TV and usage of WIFI is complimentary.
There is no separate shower cubicle and the whole washroom gets wet when you take a shower.
The cleanliness is satisfactory.
The bath amenities provided include 2 toothbrushes, shampoo, bath gel, soap and a shower cap.
Complimentary newspapers is delivered to the room in the morning.
In-room service menu with very reasonable pricing.
Hallmark Cafe which is the only restaurant, is located on the ground floor just beside the hotel lounge.
Our room comes with breakfast and I would say the food is simple but nice. Overall the hotel is not bad.

The pros of staying here:
i) 1 minute to walk to the riverside.
Activities: (a)Take a stroll along the river and see the murals painted on the
                        buildings
                   (b) Sit by the riverside and enjoy the river view and breeze.
Lorong Masjid which is just beside the hotel will lead you to the riverside. (only 1 minute walk)
You can see a mosque with an oriental roof called Masjid Kampong Hulu just beside the river.
A stroll along the pathway on either side of the river will lead you the Red Square area where all the major attractions are located. Notice the murals on the buildings.

ii) 4 minutes walk to a food street (evening only).
Activities: Dining and buying local delicacies.
Street food vendors open their stalls in the evening. This place is 4 min walk from the hotel.
The food street where chairs and tables are set up for diners.

iii) 5 minutes walk to Jonker Street
From the street above it takes just another minute to walk to Jonker Street. This is a very busy street famed for its heritage charm, local delicacies, antiques and souvenirs.

iv) 15 min walk to the Red Square and other major attractions.
At the opposite end of Jonker Street is the Red Square and other major tourist attractions.
