* The Ritz Carlton & JW Marriot , Kuala Lumpur

I have decided to put The Ritz Carlton and JW Marriot  in the same post as both are similar in many ways.
Firstly, both are prestigious and luxurious hotels owned and managed by the same company. Secondly, both are located in the "Golden Triangle" which is a prime business and shopping district in Kuala Lumpur.
In fact both the hotels are just adjacent to each other even though they have addresses with different streets. (the streets are actually parallel to each other as shown in the map below). They are also linked to each other via an enclosed passageway on the first floor making them connected indeed. 


1) THE RITZ CARLTON

The Ritz Carlton has a very ordinary looking entrance which does not befit its "luxury" status.

The reception lobby is not very big but the setting is one of classic elegance. The beautiful chandelier, the oil-paintings and the wooden walls certainly contribute to the classic feel of the place. There is however lack of sitting places at the reception lobby for family members who have to wait to be checked-in.
Patrons who drive have to pay RM10 for parking, a fee which in my opinion should have been waived.

This is the nearby lounge. Furnished with a grand piano and decorated with beautiful ornament and decorative pieces, it certainly exudes an exquisite charm. 

We stayed in the executive deluxe room. The room is comfortable but is not really unique. Every room in this hotel comes with the butler service. Upon checking in the butlers (there were two of them) brought in our complimentary drinks. Request for hot and cold beverages can be made throughout the day through these butlers and they are absolutely free.

The room is equipped with a flat screen TV, a DVD/CD player and comfortable sofa chairs.

High speed internet, coffee & tea making facilities and a mini-bar are some of the room facilities available.

The washroom is very clean and comes with a separate shower cubicle, a bath-tub, a hair-dryer and a complete set of toiletries.

There are 4 F&B outlets in the hotel and our breakfast was at Cesar's Restaurant. Breakfast which comes with the room was partially buffet and partially a la carte which means you can order from a given menu in addition to what's already displayed.The restaurant is beautiful and really speaks of class.

There is another smaller swimming pool at the spa area. This pool is only for patrons of the spa and guests of the Ritz Carlton Residences.

The spa area is set amidst a lovely and very well landscaped garden.

A cosy place which is appealing indeed. 

Also available are a gym, sauna and jacuzzi.

This is the gym/spa lounge. Many facilities are provided for the guests here. Reading materials, beverages, towels, bath amenities, etc.

It is a little pricey to stay here but the staffs are well trained to offer its guests tip-top service. Its location close to eateries, shopping malls and public transport and its exclusivity makes it a good choice for hotel seekers seeking upper-end accommodation in KL.

2. JW MARRIOT

On both occasion when I was there, I noticed a bigger crowd at JW Marriot compared to The Ritz Carlton. I may be wrong but I think JW Marriot is the more popular between the two.

This is the reception lobby. The Ritz Carlton may be elegant and classic, but JW Marriot is elegant and more contemporary in design and setting.

We stayed in Junior Suite which has a separate bedroom and lounge.

The lounge is very spacious. It is equipped with standard facilities that come with a luxury hotel (free high speed internet, a mini-bar, a safety box, coffee/tea facilities, bathrobe, slippers, free newspapers, etc).

There are 2 tvs, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom.

Our room on the 28th floor commands a good city view.

Even corridors have sophisticated furnishing..

This is the club lounge. You have to pay extra to be entitled to facilities here which include free beverages whole day round, and a pre-dinner cocktail treat with a good variety of food in addition to alcoholic beverages.

This is the Starhill Gallery, a high end mall with shops that sell mostly branded goods. There are many F&B outlets here as well.  As JW Marriot is housed in the same building as the Starhill Gallery, it is convenient for hotel guests to shop and also to dine if they choose not to dine in the hotel restaurants.

If you take a short walk outside the Starhill Gallery, you will reach another shopping mall called The Pavillion where you can shop and dine till you drop. (Picture shows entrance to The Pavillion)

Whether you stay in The Ritz Carlton or JW Marriot, these places are a few minutes walk away.
