* Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur still stands magnificent despite the fact that it is already 27 years old.  Built in 1985, with 28 floors and 662 rooms including suites, this hotel is undeniably one of the best KL city hotels I have stayed. 

It is located at Jalan Sultan Ismail which is not a very happening street but the hotel does provide frequent shuttle bus service to various places of interests. See schedule below.

The lobby area certainly exude an aura of majestic charm. Shiny floors, extravagant setting and beautiful decors. It is definitely a class above many others.

This is the reception area. The staffs are smartly dressed and trained to be courteous, helpful and friendly to hotel guests.

The Lobby Lounge is huge and has a floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking a nice garden outside.

Guests are entertained by a live band in the evenings at the Lobby Lounge.

This hotel was remodeled in 2009. The upkeep and maintenance of this place as evidenced from the well polished lifts, floors, windows etc. is really commendable.

The passageway that leads to our room is carpeted and brightly lit with nice lamps.

We stayed in a deluxe room on the 7th floor and we got this corner unit,  Room No 728.

The shape of the room is a little odd with a narrow passageway leading to the closet and washroom on the right and the bedroom straight on.

Provided in the closet are bathrobes, bedroom sandals, hangers, iron, ironing board and ample hanging space..

The safety-box provided is exceptionally big.

There is a separate shower cubicle but no bath-tub.

These are the bath amenities provided.

The hair-drier is attached to the drawer at the working table.

The room is small but well-appointed and cozy.

The most appreciated feature in the room is the glass window that extends all the way across the room.

There is an electric jug and complimentary sachets of coffee and tea.

There is a mini-bar but the items are chargeable.

There is a complimentary fruit platter.

Morning papers is complimentary. Usage of internet (wired) and parking are also free. (WIFI, however is not available)

The recreation and health facilities are located on the 2nd floor. The average-sized swimming pool looks very ordinary though.

 The Poolside Terrace looks very casual.

There is a separate baby pool a short distance away from the adult pool.

The hotel gym is big, well-maintained and equipped with state-of-the-art fitness machines.

Users of the gym are provided with clean towels, mineral water and ear-phones which are individually placed on most of the machines. It is nice to  be able to enjoy the in-house TV channels while shedding the calories away.

Usage of the sauna and steam room is complimentary for hotel guests.

Guests are also free to use the heated jacuzzi/hydro-pool.

Interested patrons can pay for the spa treatment.

The spa area is well-equipped with lockers, towels, bath amenities and toiletries for hotel guests. Photo above shows the relaxation room in the spa area.

Hot and cold drinks are also complimentary for users of the spa facilities.

Also available on the 2nd floor is an outdoor tennis court.

There is a lovely garden with a koi pond on the lobby floor.

This is the garden maze which is also located on the lobby floor. For the effort put in, Shangri-La KL really deserves the ASEAN Green Hotel Award it recently won.

It wasn't easy to weave my way to the centre.

There are a number of F&B outlets in the hotel. This is the Chinese Restaurant with an archaic-looking door.

This is "Lemon 2 Go",  the deli cafe which sells mouth-watering desserts, cakes and sandwiches. Available: dine-in or takeaways.

We took our breakfast at "Lemon Garden Cafe". 

There is a wide spread of quality cuisines. To name a few are a variety of dim sum, sashimi, pastries and cakes, Indian, Japanese, Malay ... to cater for an international crowd.

And this is my favorite.  Chocolate coated fruits.

I don't normally eat so much.

But the food looks too tempting to resist.

It was a really sumptuous breakfast, I had.

which ended with these mouth watering chocolate coated fruits. Because of this unpardonable glutonny, I gained a whopping kilogram.

It's checking-out time. I enjoyed my short stay in Shangri-La KL and it's a hotel I won't hesitate to recommend to anyone who's either on a business trip or like me, just for sheer leisure.
