If I am travelling more than 30km for a buffet, it better be worth the trip. I knew it was going to be worth driving the long distance as I've been to Shogun before and though the taste has been forgotten the feeling of satisfaction after dining there is still vivid in my mind.
There are a few branches of Shogun around the Klang Valley and the one easiest to reach from home is the branch at Sunway Pyramid.
A fairly large restaurant with a seating capacity of 400, Shogun is located on the lower ground floor of Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall. Within the restaurant a number of cozy corners are created with tables for two.
It is called a Japanese buffet because many items in the menu are Japanese. To list a few are the sashimi, carpaccio, sushi, maki and temaki, teppanyaki, chawan mushi, ramen and shoba, agimono, yakimono and karaage.
cod sashimi
assorted carpaccio
In addition to these fresh oysters there are also baked and blanched oysters.
Not 100% of the items served are Japanese as there are a variety of other international cuisines. 'Sup Tulang Kambing' on the far right for instance is a mamak specialty.
Taiwanese Sharks Fin Soup, Japanese Miso Soup And Thai Tom Yam Soup
A few food stations set up include the Tempura, Teppanyaki and Korean BBQ station.
Most other main dishes are served on the main circular buffet table at the centre of the restaurant.
Crab and mix stew (with abalone, sea cumber etc)
Eel and Roasted Chicken
Cuttlefish, Assorted Japanese Pickles and Cold Soba Noodles
Assorted cakes and desserts
Hot and Cold Beverages & Warm Desserts
What I ate that day.
The raw oysters are very fresh and went so well with the hot and sour garlic condiment that had me going for a second and third helping of it. The Japanese pickles are too salty though.
Everything on this plate tasted excellent. Bamboo clams tend to be fishy but here it is done to perfection. The snail with the tangy and spicy sauce is great, the kerabu chicken feet, unforgettable and the abalone, super yummy.
The bun is a little bit oily but everything else are lip smacking.
'Buddha Jumps Over The Wall' and the sharks fin soup are really good. I also enjoyed the other two dishes.
The Crab and the Japanese Octopus are so savoury.
Another great tasting dish I tried is the mushroom and beef teppanyaki
The only dish I didn't enjoy eating is the cold soba noodles. It's not that it isn't nice, I'm not used to eating cold noodles, that's all.
I don't have a big eating capacity and by the time I took these dessert, I was already full. Anyway, the cakes are nice.
Shogun gives diners promotion rate quite frequently.
So I was still right. The long drive to dine at Shogun is still worth the while. Quality food, quality taste, nice ambiance, value for money too.
