I was attending a wedding dinner in Alor Star and needed a place to stay for the night. Since Holiday Villa was fully booked & I do not know much about Alor Star hotels, I decided to book one based on the photos I see in the hotel websites. The colourful windows of this hotel attracted me and that was how I ended up booking "The Leverage Business Hotel' in Mergong, Alor Star.
I was quite disappointed with what I saw when I arrived. The hotel premise is actually a block of 3-storey shoplots and walking into the hotel was just like walking into a shop. So, the first rating it got from me was "F" for ambiance.
This is the hotel reception lobby and lounge. It looks more like an office than a hotel.
There is a lift and this is the hallway that leads to my room.
This is actually a budget hotel. I stayed in a superior twin room and paid RM118 nett/night for it.The room setting is rather unusual. The wash area is placed right at the room entrance. The exceptionally deep sink is unique though. There is a hair dryer here but very limited space to put your toiletries.
There is a small working table and a narrow window overlooking some unpleasant view. WIFI is complimentary and available in the room.
There is a 32inch flat TV and a DVD player.
There are no closet, shelves or drawers to put your things, only a small hanging space with a few hangers. (see picture above). A lot of our things have to be put on the floor. There are coffee and tea making facilities, complimentary mineral water and some sachets of coffee and tea.
There is a semi-partitioned shower cubicle and a toilet in a rather cramped up space. Cleanliness is satisfactory.
The hotel does not offer much facilities. Other than an internet corner with 2 computers there is hardly anything else.
The hotel restaurant called Viet Cafe is located on the ground floor, just adjacent to the lobby.
The room comes with breakfast which I find satisfactory.
The plus side is this hotel is near to the wedding dinner venue. Even though it is not located in the town centre it is near to Tesco, eateries and shops.
