Launceston has many heritage buildings and Batman Fawkner Inn is one of them. Built in 1824, it is possibly the oldest brick building in the city. The hotel interior and rooms do not look old though as the hotel has been renovated and refurbished in 2014. Since it is among the cheapest hotel in the city centre and within easy reach of the places we wanted to see, it became our natural choice.
It was formerly called Cornwall Hotel and renamed Batman Fawkner Inn in 1981. "Cornwall Hotel" is still imprinted on the upper part of the front facade making us miss this place a few times while walking to search for it.
The "Batman Fawkner Inn" signboard was not that conspicuous as it was smaller and placed lower.

Receptionists manning the place are mostly friendly. The hotel does not provide elevator for its guests but there is a luggage elevator.

We stayed in A Double Room. The room is clean but a bit small.
We were quite satisfied with the room facilities which include an air-conditioner/ heater, and free usage of Wi-Fi. Housekeeping service is not provided though.(The housekeeper did not come in to make up the bed even though we stayed more than one night)
Coffee/tea making facilities and a safety box are provided.
A mini-bar is also available
The closet space is small.
The en-suite washroom is small but clean.
There is a separate shower cubicle with a water heater. Only shampoo/bath gel, toilet tissues and towels are provided.
The space here is rather cramp.

There is no restaurant in the hotel but special delivery of meals from an outside cafe is available. There are also many eateries and restaurants at George's Street which is just a minute's walk away.
There is a guest lounge and TV area and a guest kitchen equipped with microwave oven, etc where you can heat up your food or cook a simple meal. During my stay there were a lot of users and the kitchen was sad to say very messy and a bit dirty.
Reception service is only from 8am to 9pm. No one mans the reception counter when we checked out at 7am so we just left our room keys at the counter.
