Penang Attraction: A Walk Around The Heritage Zone Of George Town

A worthwhile way to spend one's time in Penang would be to walk around the Heritage Zone of George Town. Accorded UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on 7 July 2008, this part of the city which is both ethnically and culturally diverse boasts of a rich heritage that has been passed down for more than two centuries. The city is predominantly Chinese and this is greatly reflected in the architectural style of shops and buildings owned by these dwellers. In coexistence are the Indians, Indian Muslims and a smattering of Malays each living out its unique lifestyle. On top of that Penang which used to be a Straits Settlement has inherited blocks of British colonial style administrative buildings that still stand majestic along some parts of the site.
Taking a walk in this zone is relaxing as it is neither bustling nor congested. The rather slow pace of life here conforms to my ideals of a short city vacation.
