Journey To Kinloch Via Glenorchy-Paradise Road

Another drive in the vicinity of Glenorchy that is reputed to be as spectacular as the Queenstown-Glenorchy drive is the drive along Glenorchy-Paradise Road. By the way Paradise is the name of a rural locality situated 20km from Glenorchy. How this place got its name is uncertain though it could be from the paradise ducks that live in the area. The first 8 km of this road is paved but the last 12km is unpaved. We decided to experience part of the drive (on the better road) before deviating to Priory Road to head for Kinloch.
The scenery along the Glenorchy-Paradise Road was equally stunning. Except for the first couple of kilometers where we drove past a few small lakes, the splendor of what we saw were mostly from the rolling plains, farmland, beech forest and snow-capped mountains. Do enjoy the photos of this lush and beautiful alpine scenery taken during our journey.

Kinloch
Kinloch is a rural settlement located on the northern tip of Lake Wakatipu. It is west of Glenorchy and the two localities are actually very near but because they are separated by mountain ranges, we had to drive 25km, navigating around the mountains before we could reach the place. (By boat it's only 5 minutes away, see map below to get an idea)

We dropped by Kinloch Lodge which offers lakefront accommodation, dining and adventures in this wilderness with activities like kayaking, fishing, horse riding, sky diving and camping.

Kinloch is a place where nature lovers will surely adore. It is totally unspoilt and offers a relaxing ambiance where the cares of the world can momentarily be tucked away.
