Beautiful Kuala Lumpur

There is a place in Kuala Lumpur I deem the most beautiful and hence I'm recommending it as a "must see" destination if you are visiting this city for the first time. The entirely area around Jalan Raja, Jalan Hishamuddin and Lebuh Pasar, [three roads which are interconnected to each other] houses some of the most beautiful heritage buildings of the city, most of which are a British legacy as a result of past colonialism.
If you are taking the LRT (either Kelana Jaya Line or Ampang Line), head for the Masjid Jamek station. All these buildings are a short walking distance from the station. If you are taking a cab, mention Dataran Merdeka (Merdeka Square) and it is impossible for the cab driver not to know this place.
I have specially enhanced and labeled this google map to highlight places of interest. With the exception of Masjid Jamek (No 1), they are just a few steps from each other.
Masjid Jamek or Jamek Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur.
It is located at the confluence of 2 rivers namely Klang River and Gombak River.
Jamek Mosque - A beautiful mosque with many domes, small towers and intricate wall designs.
Hardly 200 meters away is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, a spectacular heritage building which was completed in 1896. This building served as the British administrative building until 1957. It was then converted to the High Court, Federal Court and Courts of Appeals Complex for Malaysia until 2007. It now houses the offices of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture.
Just opposite it is the Merdeka Square.
The main tower of Sultan Abdul Samad Building is 41 metres high and the clock on it chimed for the first time in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee Parade.
Marvellous architecture!
The National Textile Museum located in the vicinity is another building worthy of admiration.
There are more interesting buildings just across the road.
This is the National History Museum. It is opened daily from 9am to 6pm. Entrance fee is only RM1.
Just adjacent to it is Kuala Lumpur City Gallery. Admission is free and this is also a place you can pick up nice souvenirs to bring home.
The gallery is a right place to be if you are interested to know more about KL city.
A short walk away is the Kuala Lumpur Library. The building is arch-shaped.
The Merdeka Square is a historical place for Malaysians. This was where the Malaysian flag was raised for the first time (in 1957) when it gained independence from the British rule.
This flagpole (at Merdeka Square) with a height of close to 100meters is probably the highest in the world.
A double decker bus ferrying tourists to Merdeka Square.
Selangor Royal Club at the edge of Merdeka Square.
Another heritage building nearby.
Beautiful Heritage shop houses near Hotel A One at Jalan Medan Pasar. This place is also in the vicinity.
