Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland is just 1½ hours drive from Gold Coast and not to visit this great city would be a waste since I was holidaying in Gold Coast.
I deliberated on whether I should plan my own day tour to Brisbane or to join one operated by tour agents from Surfers Paradise where I was staying.
Greyhound offers direct bus services from Surfers Paradise to Brisbane at AUD30 per return transfer but there are add-on expenses as we still have to utilize public transport to get around. There is also the hassle of waiting, lots of walking and jumping on and off public transport to get to all the places in my list cutting short time needed to visit and explore.
For convenience sake, I decided to join a guided tour. Afterall the tour rate from Scenic Day Tour was acceptable and the itinerary was superb as it covered all the places I'd wanted to see.
Scenic Day Tour charges AUD 99.90/pax for Brisbane City Tour from Surfers Paradise but taking advantage of its 'Buy Two free One' promotion, this tour averaged out to only AUD67/pax which is quite value for money. The tour bus would take us from point to point saving us all the exhaustion and waiting too.
Kangaroo Point Lookout
Our first stop upon arriving in Brisbane was Kangaroo Point Lookout. This is a fantastic spot to view the skyline of Brisbane.
Located by the edge of Brisbane River this lookout is also a relaxing hangout and picnic spot as there are facilities like tables, benches, toilets and electric grills for public use.
We could see as far as Southbank.
We had a good view of Brisbane River and the boats that sail and dock there

Story Bridge
Our next stop was to see the heritage-listed Story Bridge that spans Brisbane River. Named after John Douglas Story, a prominent public servant who advocated strongly for its construction, this bridge which utilised 20000 tonnes of steel is the 8th longest cantilever bridge in the world. Unfortunately, it is also a notorious suicide spot.

We were driven around and shown some prominent landmarks. We managed to catch glimpses of Chinatown, a few streets, public squares and bridges.

Ann Street
Central Station
After this, we proceeded to the following places:
Brisbane Botanic Gardens,
Mount Coot-tha
Queen Street
South Bank Parklands
