Sikkim Travel Part 1: Introducing Sikkim

Sikkim is virtually unheard of among my Malaysian friends. Since most readers of this blog are my fellow Malaysians, I'll just take some time off to explain what and where Sikkim is.

Sikkim is India's second smallest state after Goa. In a map, it is tucked away in an inconspicuous corner in northeast India. [see the state shaded blue with a red arrow pointer above]
Sikkim is basically surrounded by mountains. There is very little lowland and there is no international airport here. The nearest international airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal and the road distance from Bagdogra to Sikkim's capital city is about 125km.
Sikkim is bordered by Tibet to the north and northeast, Bhutan to the southeast, Nepal to the west and the Indian state of West Bengal to the south. I entered Sikkim from West Bengal (Darjeeling) by car.

The capital of Sikkim is Gangtok and this was the destination I was heading to.
