Another top attraction I visited in Milan is Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is also called the glass domed galleria. Built between 1865 and 1877 and named after the first king of Italy, this galleria is the first building in Milan to have an electric lighting.
The grandeur of the place is immediately felt the moment I set foot in it.
The architecture of this galleria screams Italian intricacy at its best!
It is elegant, classy and extravagant.
This five storey structure is covered with a glass and iron roof and the interior is decorated with patriotic mosaic, paintings and statues.
It also features beautiful mosaic floors.
At the centre of the dome lies the mosaic of a Bull of Turin. The locals believe that stepping on the testicles of the bull and turning three times would bring good luck to them. Well did I do this? No, I didn't.
This galleria is a high end shopping arcade featuring some of the oldest restaurants and fashion powerhouses belonging to the best brands like Prada, Gucci, Versace and Chanel. The prices are needless to say, very expensive.
There are two entrances into the galleria. One of them is at Piazza del Duomo which is also where Gothic Duomo is.
This is the entrance at Piazza del Duomo. Notice the spectacular triumphal arch.
This is the pedestrian walkway of the galleria facing Piazza del Duomo.
The second entrance is at Piazza della Scala.
This second entrance is near the famous La Scala Opera House.
