I can't remember where I stayed during my previous trip to Phuket fifteen or so years ago but wherever that may be, it was nothing like Patong Beach where I stayed this time.
There are ten reasons I say what I've just said.
No 1. There are so many hotels in Patong Beach catering to different budgets. Even a good one is not that unaffordable.
I stayed in a 1-roomed serviced apartment in Patong Tower Condominium where the rate was 2500baht/night.
There are plenty of cheap rooms available for 400 to 600 baht too.
If money is not a problem, you can indulge in some luxurious ones like this.
No2. It's so easy to find food. There are hundreds of restaurants, roadside stalls, beach stalls, food courts, you will be spoilt for choice.
A seafood restaurant by the beach.
Roasted suckling pig. A quarter for 500baht.
Local and authentic Thai dishes at the market...
No3. Public transportation are aplenty. The bus station where you can catch buses going to Phuket town is located at the southern end of Patong Beach.
Dozens of tuk-tuks and taxis lined the streets in Patong Beach and are always at your service to bring you around.
There are also many cars and motorbikes for rent outlets.
No 4. For die hard shoppers, Patong Beach is the place to be as there are thousands of shops & stalls selling things which may interest you.
Jungceylon the biggest shopping mall in Phuket is also located in Patong Beach.
No 5. Thailand is well known for its massage and spa services. There are hundreds of massage parlours in Patong Beach offering among others, Thai massage for as low as 200 Baht per hour.No 6. There are tour booths everywhere. Even if you have not prebooked your local tours around Phuket, it's never too late as these tour agents are more than delighted to sell you a tour of your choice, sometimes at great bargains.
No 7. Patong boasts of some nice beaches (Freedom Beach, Kalim Beach, Patong Beach,..) Patong Beach, a 2 minutes walk away from where I stayed is a beautiful beach, 2km long with fine white sand and a very gentle gradient. (the sea is rough during the monsoon season so be sure to check out the best time to go).
No 8. Patong Beach has a vibrant night life which pulsates away till the wee hours of the morning.
No 9. Money changers are everywhere.
No 10. Phamarcies, clinics, wet market.. even tattoo shops. You have them all in Patong Beach.
If you need some peace and quiet just retreat to your hotel room but a word of advice.
Do not stay too near Bangla Road as the noise coming out from there is thunderous.
By the way the airport is an hour's drive away from Patong Beach. You can save some money by taking the minibus instead of the taxis.

Hi, thanks for the details, very informative and and assuring. Can I ask if you happen to know if we can rent a car in Malaysia and drive into Thailand?
ReplyDeletePhuket Airport Transfer
Yes you can. But you have to bring your car grant (registration card) and buy insurance before entering the border. It's best if you check the latest requirement online.
