Budapest: Sighseeing Cruise On Danube River

Taking a cruise along the Danube River is a worthwhile thing to do in Budapest as it kinds of complete a Budapest sightseeing tour. Cruising along you get to feast your eyes on some of Budapest's most beautiful landmarks and enjoy one of the world's outstanding riverbank landscape.
There are many boat operators that conduct cruises from the boat peers in the city and a number of packages to choose from. There are cruises that come with lunch, dinner or just a drink. There are cruises that come with or without commentaries. Passengers can choose to sit on the covered deck or the open air deck. The best views are obviously from the open air deck.

The sightseeing cruise that I was in lasted about an hour. The route taken is along the stretch of Danube River where the embankment on either side has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along this stretch which spans the river from Liberty Bridge all the way to Margaret Bridge, you get an unobstructed vista of some historic buildings and also sail under several prominent bridges of Budapest.

On the eastern side of the river is Pest where you get to see the Parliament building, Roosevelt Square, the Academy of Sciences and the Gresham Palace which is now Four Seasons Hotel, and a host of other architectural beauties. On the western side is Buda where the Castle District and all its spectacular buildings are located. On the Buda embankment you also get to see Gellert Hill with the Statue of Liberty and Citadel, the Cave Monastery and other interesting monuments.

These pictures will take you on a virtual cruise. Enjoy!
