Taking a cruise along the Melaka River is something I've long wanted to do. Unfortunately my visits to Melaka always coincided with the Malaysian Festive Seasons or the Malaysian School Holidays, a time when holiday-makers thronged the jetty by the thousands. Long queues always turned me off so I never really got on the cruise.
My most recent trip to Melaka happened to fall on a normal weekday so I jumped at the much awaited opportunity.
The cruises operates every day from 9.00am till 11.30pm. You can board the boat at Muara Jetty or Taman Rempah Jetty. We took ours from the Muara Jetty which is very near the Red Square and Jonker Street. [Refer to my posting on A Walking Tour of Melaka]
The fares are as follows:
Adults: RM10 (Malaysian) RM15 (Non-Malaysian)
Children : RM5 (Malaysian) RM7 (Non-Malaysian)
The Melaka River which flows into the Straits of Malacca cuts across Melaka town and taking the cruise is a good way to see some interesting parts of Melaka. I'll let the pictures I took do the talking.
The boat made a U-turn near the Taman Rempah pick-up point and headed back to where we board. All in the journey took 45 minutes and I felt it was a worthwhile thing to do.
