Pulau Perhentian Part 3: Big Or Small - Which is better? & Traveling Tips For 1st Timers.

I was deliberating on which island to stay as there are actually two Perhentian Islands:
Pulau Perhentian Besar (the big island) and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (the small island).

These are some of the info. I gathered before making a choice.

Pulau Perhentian Besar
- The beaches are longer and wider and the sand finer.
- Is more laid back and quieter.
- Other than resorts and guest houses there are hardly any commercial activities
(shops, restaurants, nightlife, etc. There is however a small store between Tuna Bay and New
    Coconut Chalet selling snack food)
- There is no village.
- Accommodation tend to be more pricey.

Pulau Perhentian Kecil
- There are more budget accommodation that caters to backpackers and budget
  tourists.
- There is a fishing village (Kampung Pasir Hantu)
- It is more happening as there are souvenir and grocery shops, laundrettes,
restaurants, and some form of night life at Long Beach. (Pasir Panjang)

Accommodation like this is readily available in Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Small Island) if you are a budget traveller. But such accommodation are a little further from the pier where the boat drop off passengers (10-20 min walk perhaps).
If you are staying on one island but desires to visit the other, it is not a problem as water taxis are always at your service. The photo above shows water taxi rates from Coral Bay (in the small island) to various destinations.

I made my choice at last and I chose Pulau Perhentian Kecil.

Below are some useful info/advice for first time visitors to Pulau Perhentian.

- There are no banks or ATMs in Pulau Perhentian, so do be sure to bring enough
   Ringgits.

- There are no pharmacies or hospitals, just a village clinic manned by nurses and a
medical assistant, so do take 100% precaution during activities like snorkelling,
  diving or swimming.

- Bring own first aid kit in case of minor injuries and bring own medicines like
  paracetamol, painkillers, giddy pills etc

- Bring water resistant bags for important documents, expensive gadgets or money.

- Bring sun block as the the weather (non-monsoon season) is extremely hot.

- Electricity is provided by generators and supply is sometimes disrupted. You may
  need a power bank.

- Internet, if provided by resort is often sluggish.

- There are no high rise buildings, no motorised vehicles, no supermarkets in the
   islands.

- Bring enough plastic bags to contain wet swim suits, towels, etc

- If you are staying in the big island, bring your own favourite snacks as there are
  hardly any shops.

- Do not leave money or expensive gadgets unattended/unsecured on  beaches or
  even in your room.

Hotel will provide security box or how to keep it safe while snorkling?

Any suggestion?

You didn't see a picture of a security box in my posting so most probably it wasn't provided.(sudah lupalah..)We do not normally trust hotel staffs including those from 5 or 6 stars. What you can do is to bring a larger luggage bag and a thicker padlock. Lock the important things inside this bag before leaving the room. It is unlikely that a dishonest staff will cart away a 'big bag' as there are CCTVs... Hope it's a good idea.
