We left Cappadocia for Bolu. It was another long journey that took almost an entire day. Enroute we stopped at a few prominent landmarks like an ancient caravanserai and Turkey's largest salt lake. We also visited the famous Ataturk Mausoleum in Ankara.
Öresun Han
The Öresun Han is a caravanserai in the district of Bebek in Aksaray Province.
This caravanserai was in a dilapidated state until its renovation in 2017 to its present form. Built as early as 1188, it served as a resting place for early merchants plying the ancient Silk Road. The present building which I believe is the exact replica of the original one is rectangular, measuring about 25m by 34m, is totally covered and has no courtyard. Currently it houses a cafeteria and souvenir shop for travellers that ply the highway along which it is located.
Tuz Golu which is the second largest lake in Turkey is a salt lake occupying a huge area in the arid central plateau of Turkey. Despite its size it is shallow and is the main source of salt in the country. The lake is not that pretty a sight and its shores are quite muddy. I failed to see the red hues caused by microfungus (as seen in pictures before) and I had a tough time cleaning my shoes after taking a walk around the area. The other attraction here is a big souvenir shop selling Turkish products including salt products harvested from the lake.
The Mausoleum of Atatürk
The Mausoleum Of Ataturk is Ankara's top tourist attraction. Located on a hill called Rasateppe, this mausoleum was built in honour of the founder of Turkish Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal (aka Ataturk) who was also a field marshal, a revolutionary statesman, an author and the first President of Turkey. The Mausoleum Complex covers 700000 square meters and features the mentioned mausoleum, The Honorary Hall, many important towers (Independence Tower, Freedom Tower, Defence Of the Rights Tower, Republic Tower, Peace Tower etc), The Lions' Road, The Victory Relief and many other exhibits.

By the time we reached our hotel in Bolu it was almost dark. The weather in Bolu was much colder than the other parts of Turkey we traversed through. We checked into our room and had a sumptuous buffet dinner after that.
