My Taiping Trip Part 5: A Visit To Perak Museum

Taiping has many "firsts". The first or oldest museum in Malaysia which is Perak Museum is also located here. Painted entirely white and built with a neo-classical influence, this museum building is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful heritage buildings in Taiping.
The museum is opened to the public from 9am to 6pm. Entrance fee is RM2 for a Malaysian adult and free for children below 12 years old.
The early railway coach displayed outside the museum.
This Bedford Model car was used for propaganda against the Communists in Malaya in the 1930s.
Other interesting display in the museum ground.
Sagor boats or dug-out canoes were used in the 18th century as a means of transportation in Malay villages along Perak River banks.
While the display outside the museum looks interesting, the display inside certainly lacks a theme. There is a little of everything but nothing much concerning the history of the state. There is hardly anything to depict the early tin-mining activities which Perak is famous for and the colonial rule which shaped the administration of our country till this day. The museum could have also exhibited a more impressive display of the history of Perak Sultanate.
