Phuket Travel Part 13: Cape Promthep and Karon Viewpoint

Other than beaches and islands there are a lot other places to explore in Phuket. Some of these are the viewpoints. I visited only two out of the ten or so viewpoints but was already impressed by what Phuket has to offer.

1. CAPE PROMTHEP (also known as Laem PromThep)
Cape Promthep is located on the south-western tip of Phuket and is famous for its sunset view.
I came here during the hot afternoon but it was very windy at the cape.
I was rather amused by this group of female tourists from China. They came all prepared with beach dresses and scarves and vainly posed for snapshots with the wind blowing on their faces and scarves. Come to think of it, I should have done that too.
Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse and the Monument of Prince Jumborn are located in the vicinity of Cape Promthep. This lighthouse turned mini museum is opened to visitors.
There is also a Hindu Shrine at the cape.
There are hundreds of elephant figurines on this open-air shrine. Quite interesting to watch as they come in many different sizes.

2. KARON VIEWPOINT
The 2nd viewpoint I visited was the Karon Viewpoint.
A spectacular view of the coastal line from Karon Viewpoint.
Three of Phuket's popular beaches, Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon Beach are visible from this viewpoint.
This is Naiharn Lake, which we passed by on our journey from Cape Promthep to Karon Viewpoint.
